OVERVIEW

The Hill, St. Louis' iconic Italian neighborhood and vital part of the city's cultural heritage, needed a modern logo that would honor their rich historical legacy while positioning the community for future growth and recognition.

CHALLENGE

The neighborhood required a visual identity that could authentically represent their deep-rooted Italian heritage and community resilience while appealing to contemporary audiences. The design needed to capture the significance of pivotal moments in the neighborhood's history, particularly the community's successful fight to preserve connectivity when urban development threatened to divide and potentially destroy the area.

SOLUTION

I designed a logo featuring a capital "H" with an distinctive arched crossbar that serves as a subtle yet powerful reference to the Highway 44 overpass—a symbol of the community's resilience and advocacy that preserved the neighborhood's connectivity in the 1970s. This thoughtful design detail creates a visual tribute to The Hill's ability to bridge past and present, resulting in a proud, enduring identity that honors the neighborhood's Italian heritage while reinforcing their legacy of community strength and cultural preservation.
